Usage:

Polyethylene Terephthalate is a highly versatile plastic commonly used in the manufacturing of beverage bottles, food containers, and other packaging materials due to its strength, thermo-stability, and transparency.

Applications of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)

  • Packaging: Bottles for water, soft drinks, juice, and edible oil — PET’s clarity and barrier properties make it the preferred choice.
  • Food containers: Trays, clamshells, and jars that require heat resistance up to 70–80 °C in standard grades.
  • Textile fibers: Spun into polyester fiber for clothing, sportswear, carpets, and industrial fabrics.
  • Films and sheets: Biaxially oriented PET (BoPET / Mylar) used in solar panels, flexible electronics, and photographic film.
  • Engineering plastics: Reinforced PET compounds for automotive parts, connectors, and precision components.

Applications

PET is one of the world’s most widely produced thermoplastic polymers. In packaging, food-grade PET resin is the material of choice for carbonated soft drink bottles, water bottles, and food containers due to its excellent barrier properties against CO₂ and O₂, transparency, and low weight. Textile-grade PET (polyester fibre) is used in clothing, home textiles, and technical fabrics. Industrial applications include PET films used in electrical insulation (Mylar), solar cell backsheets, and packaging laminates. PET is also the base polymer for engineering applications requiring dimensional stability, such as electrical connectors and motor components. Recycled PET (rPET) has become increasingly important as brands commit to sustainability targets — bottle-grade rPET is now routinely blended with virgin PET for food-contact packaging. Buyers typically specify PET by intrinsic viscosity (IV): bottle grade 0.72–0.84 dL/g, fibre grade 0.60–0.68 dL/g, and film grade 0.60–0.68 dL/g. Unifarm Chemical supplies PET resin suitable for packaging and fibre applications with standard and custom IV specifications.
