Usage:
- Fly ash heavy metal immobilisation: PDMDTC is the most widely used dithiocarbamate reagent for stabilising heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Zn, Cu, Cr, Hg) in fly ash from municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI). It forms insoluble metal-dithiocarbamate complexes that pass TCLP and GB 5085.3 leaching toxicity criteria, enabling compliant landfill disposal.
- Waste incineration flue gas treatment: Applied in wet scrubbing systems to precipitate heavy metals from acidic scrubber effluents generated during waste-to-energy operations.
- Industrial wastewater treatment: Effective precipitant for removing dissolved heavy metals (Cu²⁺, Ni²⁺, Zn²⁺, Pb²⁺, Cd²⁺) from electroplating rinse water, mining drainage, and smelter effluents at pH 5–11.
- Sludge stabilisation: Used in conjunction with Portland cement or lime for the ex-situ stabilisation/solidification of contaminated sludges from industrial sites prior to landfill disposal.

Potassium dimethyldithiocarbamate (PDMDTC) is a dithiocarbamate-class heavy metal chelating agent available as a 50% aqueous solution. Its chelating mechanism is based on the affinity of the dithiocarbamate functional group (–NCS₂⁻) for soft Lewis acid metal ions. The resulting metal complexes are highly insoluble — the solubility products (Ksp) of dithiocarbamate complexes with Pb, Cd, and Hg are several orders of magnitude lower than those of metal hydroxides or sulfides — making PDMDTC uniquely effective at achieving leaching compliance even at low reagent dosages (typically 1–3% by weight relative to fly ash). Unlike inorganic stabilising agents such as sodium sulfide, PDMDTC performs reliably across the pH range encountered in fly ash systems (pH 9–12), does not generate hazardous H₂S gas, and produces a dry, handleable treated product. Unifarm Chemical supplies PDMDTC in IBC totes and drums with full documentation.
